Welcome back to another video. It's your boy, Unholyspirit. Today, I'm going to be teaching you how to play rogue. I'll be going over talents, glyphs, rotation, which gems to use, what stats you should be going for at which point of the game like for example, you want to be going for haste early on and you want to go for armor penetration later on.
I'll be going through everything, macros, everything you want to know so stay tuned. Drop a like, subscribe and please leave a comment. Thank you.
TALENTS & GLYPHS
So first let's take a look at the talents because I know everyone wants to know what the talents are. Now for example, this one, this one, and this one depends on what you're using. I just do this even though I am using these two because eventually, I'll be using it. Swords and axes whatever, you know.
It’s just something to keep in mind. And then here… So some people say three here's better and two here's better. The top people who do top DPS all go for four one usually. It doesn't really matter; they basically do exactly the same thing.
Major Glyphs:
Glyph of Sinister Strike, Glyph of Killing Spree & Glyph of Rupture/Glyph of Eviscerate
Here are the glyphs, these will change over time so at the moment as you can see, I am using Glyph of Rupture. You want to be using Glyph of Eviscerate; I hope I said that correctly, when you have more armor penetration around 90% and as you can see, I’m only at 45%.
GEM SOCKET BONUS
So next, we're going to look at which gems to use in which socket. So red socket, you can use Fractured Cardinal Ruby, Fractured Dragon's Eye, Delicate Cardinal Ruby, Delicate Dragon's Eye, Precise Cardinal Ruby and Precise Dragon's Eye.
These obviously depend on which stats you're missing. Just go with the stat that… Look at the priority list in this description, I will show you exactly which stats to use so early game, mid game and late game. Just follow that.
And then let's choose which gem to use in the yellow socket. You can use Rigid King's Amber, Smooth King’s Amber, Rigid Dragon's Eye, Glinting Ametrine, Deadly Ametrine and Accurate Ametrine. And for blue socket, you always want to use Nightmare Tear because there's nothing good in that socket you can put in.
And your meta socket should be Relentless Earthsiege Diamond. That's basically it. There you go, this is huge; 3% increase critical damage.
STAT PRIORITY
Next, we'll be looking at the stat priority. So number one priority, you should be focusing on is getting your spell hit to nine between nine and twelve percent depending what you're doing. For example in dungeons, you most likely will want 12% so you're fully capped without needing anyone's help.
In raid, you should always have a shadow priest/boomkin at least in 25-man. In 10-man, it’s a bit iffy. So again, I like to go for 12%. I don't want to worry about it and it increases your white hits as well. So 12% or 9% is up to you, I'd prefer 12%. If you know you're always going to have to hit buff in raids, then go for 9% for sure.
Next up, we have expertise. So in expertise, you just want 26/26. That's it, easy peasy. That's all you want. And next one is armor penetration. You want to be aiming for 1400 which is a 100%. Don't worry about the armor penetration so much if you're very early in it. If you haven't got like 80%, 70%, don't even bother gemming it.
Crit becomes really useful later on when you have more armor penetration. Although early on again, it's not the best but you do regenerate energy from it even early on, so it's not terrible.
Haste is really good early on because your poisons aren't affected by armor penetration but they are affected by your haste. The amount of times you hit, you see. Like, when you proc all these… This, this and you have this up and then you also have Bloodlust, imagine how low this number is going to be. You're just going to be applying poisons… They're not even going to know what hit them.
The next one is agility. Arguably, attack power is higher up than agility but again, it depends on what stage you are in the game so agility is better later on; attack power is better early on just like haste.
Strength is absolutely garbage. You don't ever want to go for it.
SPELL PRIO & ROTATION
So next, we're going to be looking at the spell opener and the general rotation. So rogue is a bit unique, not really. Other classes do this too. It doesn't have a rotation, it has a priority list. So here's the priority list. Follow this. If this thing is done, go to the next thing on the list basically.
So the number one priority is keep Slice and Dice up 24/7. If it falls off, you're failing unless obviously it's a movement boss and you don't need this Slice and Dice but most of the time, you just want to prioritize this.
Number two: Rupture if you have low to medium gear. So this is to say about but less than 90% armor penetration, you still want to be having this rotation I'm speaking of now. So next, Killing Spree if you haven't got these cooldowns up.
I shouldn't have used them. I want to be using them in a minute when I show the rotation but okay. And Eviscerate to fill, if you have enough time to fill up the bars of these. If you don't have enough time to fill up the bar…
Let's say it's about to run out and you just used Eviscerate with 5 combo points. Oh I have enough of one, that's fine, that's fine. I'll give you enough time to get enough of whatever you're doing and you can get that up if your Rupture is falling off now, quickly get it up. That’s a priority.
And again, you can use Slice and Dice with 1,2,3,4 or 5 combo points, whatever you see suitable, whatever fits into the situation. So now, the rotation for high armor penetration individuals is Slice and Dice, Eviscerate, Killing Spree. Use Killing Spree on cooldown unless you are saving it for something like spikes on Marrowgar or adds at Lady Deathwhisper.
Or maybe you're saving it for the ooze at PP, list goes on. But generally speaking, Slice and Dice – Eviscerate - Killing Spree. You use Killing Spree when you have low energy so you don't waste energy after using this.
You don't want to use Killing Spree during your cooldown up time, especially this during Adrenaline Rush. You don't want to be using it and this doesn't really work on that. It's a static 0.5% attack speed so it's a bit of a waste using Killing Spree. So use these and then use that after you've used your cooldown opener.
MACROS & ADDONS
So the next part is going to be a bit of extra information. I'm going to show you a macro. I use one macro, that’s this one, mouseover Tricks of the Trade. Some people like to make two versions of this.
They like to do the names of the two tanks. I prefer the freedom of being able to choose which tank with one button and also choose a rogue if it's okay, if the tank isn't absolutely slacking. I'll be putting this in the description.
Now the add-ons I recommend in order, I think they are, would be number one: obviously DeadlyBossMods.
That's an obvious one, everyone uses this. This isn't rogue specific, this is specific to… Doesn't show up but I have it though.
The second one would be TellMeWhen. So I would even argue this is better than DBM if you know the fights for sure because you don't need a timer on the side to tell you what is going to happen in a few seconds when you know what's going to happen anyway.
But you do need this… Well you don't need it, you can go old school and look up here or ElvUI but it's really helpful. It helps you track your cooldowns. So instead of having to put my eyes all the way up here which is the furthest, almost the furthest distance you can get from here, I can just look here and I can put it anywhere.
I can put it anywhere I want and I can downsize it. I can add more rows to this specific one.
I can add more rows this way. I can add less rows. It’s a very nice add-on. I use it on every single class actually because you can use it for every single class.
Another add-on would be HealBot. HealBot is very useful. So if I was in a group right now, I would have the people in the group's name here. So this makes it really easy to use Tricks of the Trade. Makes it really easy to see what's going on in the raid and it also makes it really useful to track debuffs as well, see what people are doing wrong, doing correctly, you name it.
Another add-on I would like for you to use is Omen Threat Meter. It's not essential but it's very helpful. Let's say you're in a raid and you're not the strongest there so you don't have to worry about your threat but your Tricks of the Trade swapping for the extra 15% damage with the other rogue. What this Omen allows you to do is it shows the top however many can fit on this board…
Maybe I can test it here. No because obviously I'm not in a group but it will show the top 1, 2, 3 whatever amount of people you can fit on to when you drag it. And if let's say a fire mage is about to overtake the tank you can quickly go, “Okay, I need to use Tricks of the Trade on the tank ASAP”.
And boom, you might have saved the mage’s life and you've saved a lot of DPS. So actually, your Tricks of the Trade could have actually brought up like 16k DPS for like the rest of the raid by saving them.
Another add-on I would like for you to use: Skada and Recount. Use Skada for bubbles so you can see how the discs and healers are doing and purely if you can't afford to see your own damage to be a narcissistic prick. You don't need them. They do give you valuable information.
They give you way more than just information about damage. They give you information about a lot of stuff, not everything. There are some circumstances where you're like… For example, if someone fails the mechanic, it shows they failed this mechanic and you can say you failed that mechanic, you need to do that better.
It's very useful and very overlooked as an essential. People say, “Oh, you don't need it”. But in my opinion, it's very helpful especially if you're raid-leading so you can keep track of what's going on and who's messing up and who's dispelling.
For example: “Who messed up that dispel”? And no one says anything. Although this does show the overall ones, if you look at the end and someone uses it, someone might be able to catch that person.
So yeah, thank you guys for watching my video. I really appreciate it. Sorry for taking like a month to make a video. I was doing some other stuff.
