With Dragonflight's first season and raid here starting on December 12th, I've decided it's a good time for a PVE guide for Windwalker. I normally prioritize PVP content on my Twitch and YouTube, but it's time to give some of you guys that enjoy PVE some love!
With Dragonflight's first season and raid here starting on December 12th, I've decided it's a good time for a PVE guide for Windwalker. I normally prioritize PVP content on my Twitch and YouTube, but it's time to give some of you guys that enjoy PVE some love!
We will go over some Talent builds fitting each type of player versus environment setting, as well as talking about how to deal damage properly on Windwalker, and what a rotation and Stat priority looks like.
Hopefully some of the info I shared with you guys today will help you on your path to master Windwalker. Thanks so much for checking it out guys and let's get into it!
Talent Builds
So first we're going to be talking about my Windwalker Mythic Plus and single-target AOE mix kind of build. This is the build I use for pretty much every single Mythic Plus dungeon I do; it relies around doing big damage when packs are low with the AOE Touch of Death, but we'll talk more about that later and just go through the tree now.
M+/AoE Build:
Soothing Mist: Increases all healing taken by 80%, which is very helpful for our healer.
Blackout Kick: Our single target damage spender for Chi.
Calming Presence: Reduces damage taken.
Incense Cap: Reduces the cooldown of our abilities.
Chi Torpedo: Increases damage and grants a movement speed increase.
Transcendence: A port ability.
Spear Hand Strike: A kick ability.
Fortifying Brew: One of our main defensive cooldowns.
Sun Warrior: Grants an extra charge of Roll.
Fast Feet: Increases the damage of Rising Sun Kick and Spinning Crane Kick.
Ring of Peace: Helps the tank group up mobs better.
Chi Burst: Grants Chi per enemy hit, up to two.
Close to the Heart: Increases healing taken for all allies near you by 8%.
Escape from Reality: Lets us port again.
Fatal Touch: Reduces Touch of Death cooldown.
Improve Touch: Increases Touch of Death damage.
Resonant Fists: Grants more Nature damage to enemies if it procs.
White Tiger: An AOE pulsating statue that does decent damage.
For the Mythic Plus talent tree, we have:
Fist of Fury: Deals decent damage.
Touch of Karma: Another defensive ability for monks.
Ascension: Increases Chi and energy regeneration.
Max Energy: Increases Chi and energy regeneration.
Power Strikes: Grants additional Chi from Tiger Palm.
Deals 100 more damage.
Flashing Fist: A Fist of Fury modifier.
Open Palm Strikes: Another Fist of Fury modifier, for lots of Fist damage.
Gloria's Dawn RSK: A chance to proc a second time, dealing a small amount of damage and restoring an extra Chi. RSKs can hit up to five targets, and images can proc when you practice.
Serpent Kick Mobility: Increases Windlord stacks when applied to Windwalker Strike.
Thunder Fist: Grants a stack for each enemy hit by your Strike of the Windlord, so it's important to hit as many targets as possible with it.
Hit Combo: Works with Windwalker Mastery; don't use the same ability more than once in a row for a flat 6% damage increase.
Meridian Strikes: Reduces Touch of Death cooldown and does additional damage.
Storm, Earth, and Fire: Our main damage cooldown.
Serenity: May be used in single-target situations over Storm, Earth, and Fire.
Shadow Boxing: Grants a 10% increase in kick damage with two additional strikes.
Blackout Kick: Will do insane damage in Mythic+.
Dance of Chi-Ji: Grants a chance to proc and do 200 extra damage.
Storm, Earth, and Fire should be used with Blackout Kick before fixating to jump around and apply Mark of the Crane stacks for a spinning Crane Kick modifier that can hit up to five targets.
Zuen's Battle Gear: Reduces the cooldown of RSK and Fist of Fury. Fist of Fury increases the damage of your next Fist by 3% up to 10 times.
Skyreach: Grants a 50% crit for 6 seconds on each target hit and has a 1 minute cooldown.
Damage priority/rotation
All right, so the damage rotation for Windwalker Monk is relatively straightforward.
You want to make sure to properly utilize your big cooldowns and follow a priority list. Avoid pressing the same button twice in a row, as this will break Mastery. Your two-minute cooldowns are especially important. Xuen, the White Tiger, will passively mimic 10% of the damage you deal every four seconds. Make sure to use Xuen before you burst damage, rather than after.
We have Summon White Tiger Statue, which will pulse for a little bit of damage on top of trash pulls. You should use this whenever there are a decent number of targets and you can throw it down on a raid boss, for example, to increase damage, as there is not much else you can get from that Talent section.
For Strike of the Windlord, you should use it with a set of images almost every time. This does a lot of damage and farms stacks of Thunderfist when it hits. Each enemy struck will get a stack, and Thunderfist will do huge damage. You will see big spikes in your DPS when playing Windwalker and Thunderfist is proccing.
The base AOE rotation for Windwalker outside of the main cooldowns will be to use Tiger Palm and keep Fist of Fury on cooldown. When Fist is on cooldown, use Tiger Palm, Spin Crane Kick, Tiger Palm, Spin, Tiger Palm, Fist of Fury and so on, rotating through these abilities. For single target, the only difference is to use Tiger Palm, Blackout Kick, Rising Sun Kick on cooldown and keep Fists on cooldown, and Strike as well.
Windwalker PVE is fairly straightforward - just don't use the same ability twice in a row and you'll see some great results.
All Right, and Also One Thing is Touch of Death
Now going into Dragonflight, it has so many modifiers in our talent build and it has a lot of the stuff that was seen in Torgast. So, if you played Shadowlands, you'll know that Touch of Death was kind of an insane build in Torgast with all these modifiers, as well as it being able to have a reduced CD and then striking four nearby targets as well.
So, when a target's low you could use Touch and it'll hit the targets nearby, and then it'll be able to be procced a second time with another Talent, so you can use it on another mob that's low in the area. So, you want to be using that Touch kind of when you know there's going to be another mob low in that area as well, to proc it again, and it'll basically AOE do a disgusting amount of damage, make up for over 25% of your overall damage inside of a dungeon sometimes.
So, yeah, it's great. Touch is a lot of fun to use, and you'll see crazy spikes in the DPS charts because of this ability alone. So, yeah, that's pretty much it for the damage rotation for Windwalker and PVE. I'll show you a clip just kind of highlighting what Touch of Death is and how to use it properly now as the Windwalker in Dragonflight. So, yeah, we'll get to that now.
Touch of death example
All right, guys, so whenever there are more than three or four targets inside of a Mythic Plus dungeon, you're going to be using lots of Spinning Crane Kicks.
- Mark of the Crane stacks an 18 damage buff for Spin and it lasts for 20 seconds. This directly works with all the other rights and sidekick damage modifiers.
- Dance of Chi-Ji spending Chi has a chance to make your next Spinning Crane Kick free and deal an additional 200 damage.
So, what you're going to be doing on pulls like that is popping your Rising Sun Kick and Tiger Palm, Blackout Kick, and Fists of Fury, and you'll see that it fully applies Mark of the Crane to every target.
When I'm only hitting this one, my Rising Sun Kick and Fists of Fury do all the work for me, and you'll just be going back and forth with your main damage rotation, just spamming Tiger Palms and big Spinning Crane Kicks, as well as some Fists of Fury.
So, that's how you control your images to apply Mark of the Crane for you before you fixate, and just keep in mind that you want to have this stacked at all times throughout the Mythic Plus dungeon when there's trash pulls.
Windwalker Monk Stat Priority
All right, guys, so for Windwalker Monk stat priority in Dragonflight, you're going to be prioritizing Agility (essentially means item level)
So, if there's a big item level gap between a piece of armor, it will most likely be better even if it has bad stats on it. So, that being said, your stat priority, other than Agility, will be
- Versatility
- Critical Strike
- Mastery
- Haste
That's it for Windwalker's stat priority.
Conclusion
All right, guys, so that is going to cover everything I wanted to talk about and go over for the Windwalker Monk Dragonflight PVE guide. This is the first time I've ever made a PVE guide, so if you guys liked it, let me know in the comments down below, and make sure to follow my twitch at Twitch.tv.
Thank you guys so much for checking out the video, and I will see you soon with another one. Take care!
