Welcome to our new raid guide preview videos, proudly presented by Kingston Fury. In this video, we'll show you how to kill the first boss in heroic Aberus, Kazzara. Please keep in mind that everything in this video is from PTR testing, and it's possible Blizzard altered the encounter in some way since the final testing. If that happens, we'll release an updated video after the fights are live.
Boss Overview
Kazzara is a single-phase encounter against a big old dragon and feels like a pretty typical opening boss that's quite straightforward.
Abilities
Hellbeam
Like most dragons, Kazzara has a frontal breath ability called Hellbeam, which is cast at 100 energy. The boss will pick a random player, face them, and then breathe in that direction. So just move out of the way and don't get your face melted. There are also swirlies that'll get thrown during this, so just don't get hit.
Terror Claws
Kazzara also has a fairly standard tank swap mechanic called Terror Claws. It deals heavy physical damage and Shadowflame damage to the tank, applies a Shadowflame DoT in the last 25 seconds, and causes you to take 200 increased damage by subsequent Terror Claw attacks. You'll just need to tank swap after every second one of these.
Hell Steel Carnage
At 80%, 60%, and 40% health, Kazzara will cast Hell Steel Carnage, which deals raid-wide damage and also throws swirlies on the ground. So just don't get hit by these.
Dread Riffs
When dread riffs debuffs go out, effective players should put these behind the raid. Dread Riffs will put marks on a few random players. After five seconds, these players will drop swirlies on the ground at their location, so move out of this. The number of debuffs and therefore number of swirls will increase after each Hells Steel Carnage cast.
Rays of Anguish
When rays of Anguish come out, effective players should kite the laser over the dread Rift swirlies. These look similar to the boomkin laser from Fury of Elune but shadowflame, a giant loser from the sky that follows a few people around forever, leaving puddles of goop on the ground wherever the laser goes. The good news is if you hit a dread Rift with a laser, both will disappear, leaving behind a large puddle of goop.
Wings of Extinction
The last ability is a fairly minor one called Wings of Extinction. This is a knockback that deals mild damage to the raid and applies a DoT to everyone. Don't get knocked back into puddles, though, as the combination of damage from the knockback, the DoT, and the puddle could actually kill you.
Strategy
So long story short, tanks will swap at two stacks. Dodge the Hellbeam and swirlies. You can bait this fairly easily if you want to by having the raid stacked in melee behind the boss, but it isn't really necessary. Your tank should kite the boss around the room as needed based on how many puddles are on the ground, always ensuring the raid has enough space. Don't get knocked back into puddles, and when the swirlies come out at 80%, 60%, and 40%, watch your feet and don't get hit. You'll probably want a healing cooldown aside for each of the Hells Steel Carnages too, especially the later ones sub 40, the damage can really start to ramp up a lot. So use defensives and raid cooldowns as needed. Keep everyone stable. You can use Bloodlust either on pull or sub 40, whichever your team prefers. Nuke the boss and move on to the more interesting encounters.
