Hey everybody, it's Kneecap here and in this video we finally have my Retribution Paladin 10.0 guide. There's a lot to cover in this with the new talents, potions, and files being new. It's going to be a lot and I'm going to try to parse out the best way I can. As always in these videos, I try to say the min-maxer stuff, but I also try to talk in common language and talk to just the regular players - we all started as one at some point, definitely including myself. There'll be a mix of high-end stuff, regular stuff, and whatever else mixed in. We'll go through stats, rotation, talents, trinkets, consumables, and all that in this video here and we'll go through them one by one.
So, let's go ahead and start with what I see people ask about a lot: stats and rotation
Generally speaking, any high-end player will tell you that you just need to simulate your character and they'll tell you what stats are best, not necessarily what stats are fastest, but what piece of gear is better. Stats obviously fluctuate once you get certain benchmarks. Once you hit certain soft caps, they can fluctuate greatly, and eventually most specs get to a point where their haste, mastery, and crit are all at a place where going higher doesn't matter and then you just stack versality from there. That's how a lot of specs work.
So it all just matters on your gear. That being said, for someone who's not going to simulate their gear, haste and mastery is a very safe way to go with a Paladin. That's always been the case, and it continues to be that way. Haste is good because it gives us procs on our zeal and then our art of war, and then that gives us seraphim and stuff like that. So haste is good in general. Mastery is good because our mastery is actually decent as a ret Paladin. And of course, you do want some amount of crit as well. You want at least 16 to 20 crit, ideally, or higher. Versality is just kind of a filler stat that's always good, but it's never the greatest until, once again, all of your other stats are so high that it becomes the best. That's been the way with retribution for a long time.
So if you've played ret before, you can kind of assume the same stat stuff. If you're new to ret, just stick with what I said: haste, mastery is kind of the way you want to go.
I should also say that primary stats are the best. We'll talk about that a little bit later, with consumables and gems and stuff. Strength is obviously your best thing that you can have, so you want to go ahead and use strength when you can. That's obviously the biggest thing. Also, weapon DPS counts as a stat too, so just getting a better weapon is going to be the number one thing that you could ever possibly do as a two-handed user, especially a ret Paladin.
Let's go ahead and talk about the rotation for this
I'm going to pull up the Wowhead Guide for this, which is a good place to go for a written guide. You can select the talents you have taken and stuff like that.
The opener is mostly the same from Shadowlands if you played Shadowlands, but if you didn't let's go over it
- Build five - Blade Judgment, Crusader Strike, Crusader Strike - and you're at five Holy Power
- Then use Crusade, Seraphim and Wake of Ashes into a Verdict. This is a single target opener
- Use Hammer of Wrath into a Verdict. Now you have two stacks of Crusade up
- Build five and then use Final Reckoning and Divine Toll. This is so you can get some stacks of Crusade built up before you start DPSing. You can wait more, but it's best to get two stacks of Crusade before you start DPSing.
- If you're not min-maxing or using the Final Reckoning build it's less important. If you don't take Final Reckoning, it's less important. Boaz does a lot of work here
- The easiest way to say it is two stacks of Crusade, build the five, then use Final Reckoning, Divine Toll, and your one minute CD. There's also a Seraphim build that some people are using or Execution Sentence build, but I would never advocate that. If you're not min-maxing, you don't need to do this
- Later, when we talk about talents, it becomes less important if you're not using the Final Reckoning build
The single target rotation is the same but with Exorcism added
- Make sure you have Seraphim up for Final Reckoning
- Exorcism is used before using any of your builders, except for Wake of Ashes
- Wake of Ashes is a strong ability that can proc with the talent build
- A big tip is to use Consecration over Crusader Strike if you only have one Crusader Strike up and Consecration up. This will increase your Consecration damage and overall damage
um next let's go ahead and move on to the talents so right now um I'm in the single Target build so this would be the single Target build that like if you that like everything is based off of right this is kind of like considered the simulated single Target build there's people not using this exact build there's people that don't use exorcism there's people that use Tempest of the lightbringer on single Target there's people that use truce to wake on single Target and we'll talk a little bit about that too with uh the fire ring um so but let's let's just go through this this is just the basic single Target rotate uh talent build and this will give you good results if you use it right if you use that rotation that that rotation is also based on this build right so coming down um what are some weird things that might you might not expect so we don't have this is kind of it's a single Target so it's kind of like a raid build right so we don't have cleanse or anything we're not worried about that something you might find weird you know we don't have Bop obviously if you're an encounter that needs Bop um you would have to take that so you have to move some stuff around uh I don't know exactly what you would move around here obviously you could take one out of golden path to at least get one blessing of protection there you can take that out and put it there um easily just to grab a Bop um there might be something else you can move maybe Cavalier or seasoned War Horse perhaps to get improved Bop if you needed that but generally speaking we go down the right side we skip Hollow ground here and we go right down to zlat's Paragon we also grabbed a duracy that's just so we can get this extra four percent haste and this is only one point whereas um you know this one is two we take that anyways uh but to get it basically this is just what you have to do to get the best talents you do miss out on Hollow ground here but that's okay it is just single this is for Pure single Target right so we're grabbing all the capstones we're grabbing uh seraphim we're gonna be seraphin Gamers at least at the beginning of dragonfly here Z last Paragon I do have seal of order again my camera blocks seal of order I've joked about this before because some people complain about it my camera blocks seal of order get over it we do have seal of order we're gonna talk about a week or later for dusk of dawn still of order as well on the right side uh you know basically everything in the middle um is what we're taking so we have final Reckoning we have Divine resonance with Divine toll we have Imperium Legacy we have virtuous command we have ashes to ashes um uh Relentless Inquisitor that caps out the bottom area to get to the bottom area we're just taking hand of hindrance again this build has exorcism you don't have to take exorcism here uh you don't even use it like on your opener as you saw on single you know on a single or multi-target you don't use it on your opener so you could take consecrated ground or one of the things to make your consecration bigger you could take temperatures lightbringer for Passive damage you know you could take improved judgment or something although it doesn't like simulate very well but you don't have to use exorcism there's a lot of builds right now if you go through Warcraft logs on single Target encounters some builds have it some builds don't it really doesn't matter because it doesn't do that much damage as long as you're obviously it's as long as you're taking something else that does do damage uh we are taking Crusade we're also Crusade Gamers at least at the beginning of dragonfly make sure you have Zeal we take wake reset Ashes to dust on single Target we take inner Grace on single Target sanctification on Multi uh we have a righteous verdict so uh one question somebody might have is Jessica's Vengeance so Jessica's Vengeance will slightly outperform righteous verdict until you get your four set So eventually you know anyone who's playing anyone who's watching a guide like this probably is going to have their four set at some point uh whether that's through the fault or the Catalyst when it comes out as soon as you have your four set which increases your templar's verdict damage then Jessica's Vengeance build becomes pointless which is why I'm not really going to go over it at all so templar's verdict uh so we'll take righteous verdict here we do have sanctify you might wonder why for single Target um but enemies hit by Divine storm take 100 more damage for consecration the only reason you have that is because we do Imperium Legacy and we also have Imperium power we're forced to take that right so we're going to be casting some Divine storms like 6 to 10 per fight on a single Target so just it is just more passive damage you could say the same thing for temperatures the lightbringer right those six to eight uh Divine storms will be empowered Divine storms so that's why this is also a build that you'll see some people taking right um and then you grab expiration up here is another one I have a question with Shield of Vengeance versus Divine protection shield of Vengeance does damage so for Max damage you want to show the Vengeance there are encounters though where Divine protection is probably better and if you are dying on those encounters then maybe you should take it it's an encounter like maybe like radissa goth actually um where you are taking like raid a big raid chunk you're taking passive damage and then you could also maybe get a personal mechanic at the same time if all of those things are happening at once especially then Divine protection will often you know just over perform Shield of Vengeance as a defensive but of course Shield of engines once again it does do damage which is why most builds or every build is going to suggest taking it so yeah this is a single Target build this is the main single Target build that pretty much everyone is using I do have a single Target with cleave build um this is basically the same exact build um I do I have some talents kind of uh jingled around over here so you would kind of still want to do the same thing with the the haste and the of duracy but I mean I wanted Hollow ground because it does have some cleave so you can play around with this but this is like a example of a single Target with cleave and basically for the most part uh because like I said I could easily just switch these talents back around over here but for the most part what I basically did is I took out exorcism and put it in the Tempest of the lightbringer for the cleave now you could also argue depending on how much cleave it is to put your swake here uh in there and you could also argue for radiant decree then again depending on how much cleave it is I'm focusing mostly on single Target when I use this build this is like a very heavy single Target and then I just maybe I'm putting out a few Divine storms maybe like the Earth Elementals on uh chromog the shaman in the raid encounter uh this would not be like a Mythic plus build necessarily you'd want to use but this is like like a mostly single Target and some cleave and again it's just mostly switching exorcism to Tempest of the lightbringer let's look at an AOE build so this is like full AOE so this is kind of like Mythic plus right this is kind of a build for oh this should technically be surfing um this is kind of a build for uh Mythic plus it's kind of a bill for Primal console in the raid and what you can see different on this side is we're not going to go down to zealots Paragon mostly because we don't want to see a crusader this is like a single Target Talent so we don't really want that so what we're what we're going to do instead is we're going to go ahead and grab both of these nodes and we're going to divide grab Divine Purpose which has always been a very strong uh multi-target Talent uh it's it's good in all cases but it's very good when you are Divine storming getting those procs can be quite quite lethal over here main differences on the retribution side we obviously don't have righteous verdict I do not have exorcism either instead I have true swag and Tempest of the lightbringer we talked about that a little bit on the cleave getting one of them grab both of them there then basically the same thing down here with the final Reckoning and everything so you can see there's not a big difference it just changes the rotation a little bit um yeah that radiant decree obviously that I would be remiss if I didn't mention that radiant decree as well uh of when you're doing math say when you're doing constant AOE um I have had success in Mythic plus using truth wake but um I think if you want sustain success or whatever because you are just relying on procs right so if you get a bunch if you get lucky on your proc so if you like let's say you get three procs on a gigantic pole of your wake of Ashes which is completely possible and it will happen you know uh then you're going to do massive damage but you can just guarantee that you get three you know radiant decrease in instead and it's not quite as strong but it's still really really really good and so um radiant decree is pretty much the way to go I I had I've tried to fight it a little bit but it's closer than what most people will tell you but reading decree is is probably the way to go there and I think we'll talk about the firing too and that that could come into play there as well and then uh last I did want to just show you my own single Target build this is you know mostly the same this is just kind of what I'm using right now you can use it in some encounters in the raid but I mostly use this for like World content just because it's easier to play it's more fun to play in my opinion and it's basically the difference is you're going on the right side here instead of final Reckoning and virtuous command and then Relentless Inquisitor you're getting Vindication verdict uh final verdict which is a very fun talent and vanguard's momentum which is a very fun Talent as well and then other than that you're pretty much playing the single Target build I am using exorcism in this because again this is just a pure single Target I don't care about my Divine storm at all um I'm just only single targeting on this um this is a build that is actually pretty good like on a boss where like so senarth is one where I've used this build just like on Prague just to kind of like make sure I'm always it has a huge hitbox anyways but just having being able to always hit final verdict like whether you're running out with the webs or whatever you might be doing maybe you get a little bit of ahead of the spider maybe you a little bit behind the spider as it's going up you can still kind of DPS with final verdict so that would be like a case to use it there and I will say this build does perform better than what it Sims this builds currently simming for me about 4 000 DPS less than that standard build that I started with uh the final verdict build here but it only really is performing like 2K worse for me in raid um and my and what I should say too is that's both of those are over so the my standard build DPS is over performing The Sim and this build is over performing The Sim which also could tell you that something might be wrong with the API on the simulations right so something could be wrong in there because I while I am a very good player I'm not like a player where I should always be beating my simulation by any means I'm usually pretty close to it but I shouldn't be beating it consistently and so there could be something wrong there as well uh in the actual API or whatever for the raid Bots and that's something to keep in mind as well but I did want to show this build it's mostly the same it's just a pure single Target build that I like to use and it's just again final verdict build and it's it's just more fun to play it does not perform as well um but it is close and it is more fun to play so those are pretty much all the builds that you would worry about for I you know Mythic plus raids you know PVE in general
so we can go ahead and move on to trinkets so trinkets I have a little bit of a disagreement with like maybe the consensus not a big one though and so we'll look at two different things for the trinkets um first let's go ahead and pull up let's pull up my thing first I don't know if you'll be able to read this or not if not you'll probably be able to read the Wowhead thing so uh basically I I just simulated all these myself in a way that made sense to me basically took off my trinkets simulated each trinket to see what they would give a single lady single Target and I simulated AOE um the one thing that is a guarantee is that the grief torch is the best single Target trinket so that drops in the raid um if you can get your hands on one of those it's the best single Target trinket you can possibly get the grief torch Blaze binders uh whatever it's Blaze Bender something we'll look at the full name in a second I think that drops in Ruby Life Pools this is the best overall trinket for rat so it's second and single Target and third in AOE so you could just wear this all the time so you want to get your hands on one of these Blaze binders 100 and then where it comes in is so grief torch is really good single Target but it's not nearly as good on multi-target so you know it's over halfway down for me on multi-target on AOE and uh you know so it's like what should I use for AOE and I like to have different trinkets for different situations and I really like storm uh the storm boom trinket um storm eaters Boon I think it's called and this simulates the best for AOE now that's the one that makes you stand still in place and I think that might be why Bolas had a ranked lower um but yeah it makes you stand in place and you can die right when that happens so that that becomes an issue but it is very very strong so for me personally my perfect setup would be Blaze binders for single and multi and then I have a grief torch for single and a storm eaters Boon for multi-target or AOE Mythic plus Etc that would be my personal setup um as far as and then we can look at how oops we can look at how bolus has them ranked here as well so again he has Blaze by yourself number one he has Mana grief torch right up there with it and for single Target I agree the only real disagreement is he has storm meters boom down here is a b trinket I assume it's because it stands still and it can kill you that's why I would rate it as more like a middle or high a um you know if you don't get your hands on one of these you can just you know all the trinkets are pretty close Horn of Valor is decent bowmas big toes decent you know wet stones and AOE only trinket so if you don't have storm eaters Boone you can try to get the wind scar Wet Stone instead to fill in for the AOE trinket but all the trinkets are pretty good um well the ones I just mentioned the ones you want to kind of stay away from are the puzzle box I actually I don't mind the puzzle box I think it's actually kind of close Corner Valerie let's look at mine I'll tell you the ones to stay away from um probably the the whisper um I don't know it they all have their they're all they all have their pluses they all have their minuses really uh but you just want to mostly shoot for the really good ones basically there's a lot that are similar and then there's some that are really good so you want to shoot for the ones that are really really good and better than the rest essentially for your trinkets uh next I think we could probably talk about the fire ring from The Raid I don't really have a great place to put this but maybe kind of with trinkets uh the firing from The Raid is a seal of djornis chosen it drops off the first boss it's very rare and you'll notice it has to do fire damage to proc this rain now uh interesting thing about rep paladins is our wake of Ashes or radiant decree is radiant damage what is radiant damage radiant damage is Holy plus fire therefore it should be procking this ring if you simulate this ring though and you look at the log of it you'll notice that you are not igniting your enemies at least that's what I noticed when I tried to simulate the ring and uh it's basically just counting it as a static you know the stamina Democrat verse of the ring and not the effect so something could be wrong on the API it could not the the radiant damage could not be coded right or something in the game I don't I have no idea uh but this ring assuming it works with your um wake up Ashley's last slash radiant decree it should be which it should be um this would be like by far your best ring that you could ever have because of that and you would have again I'm making an assumption here but with truce wake uh how it burns for another six seconds after that I assume that's also already in damage and so you would have about 40 percent uptime on fire damage with rate if you took radiant decree plus um truce wake and so whether it's single Target or multi-target that could just be something that you just take radiant decree and true swake on single Target Two um if this ring works properly I'm not sure if it does or not but if it and this is something I'll get back to like if this ever gets fixed or more comes out about it I'll make a video just about this ring but I do want that you to have that in mind that radiant damage is fire damage it's holy plus fire and this ring should work for us as well without having any kind of special thing it should just work with our wake of Ashes slash radiating degree and again my theory would be is if we have this ring we would want to use radiant decree with your swake of course maybe the burn damage only counts as holy for some reason which would be terrible but as long as that counts as long as the burn damage counts as uh radiant then I think this is actually quite good and so I am making assumptions on that but um you know there's no other way for me to do it other than to assume right now and so I did I did want to mention this ring uh for that reason um let's go ahead and talk about consumables um consumables there's obviously another big question uh for most things so like gems and your food you want to use main stat I think like the main stat food might be called um a fortune cookie or something like that uh obviously the feast will give you main stat as well if you're like in a raid environment or if you're Mythic plus group uses feasts um you can use that and so strength is going to be the best possible thing for you there's when it comes to food when it comes to gems obviously you want the main stat gem as well uh and then obviously other than that you probably won't haste Mastery like the high haste slow Mastery gem is quite good um haste Mastery again we went over that in stat priorities however if something is really really low like if your crit's at like 12 you know maybe a crit gem would be best for you to really know you would have to simulate it um other than that like I said um 16 to 20 minimum crit and haste Mastery can go up quite higher than that into the 30s and then after that would be when you wanted to start putting inverse you'll never know for sure if you don't stimulate it unfortunately when it comes to files so files are the new flasks when it comes to files generally in raid tepid versatility is going to be your best one it's just static verse it's good for environments for many reasons this uh the static empowerment where you stand still is by far the best one but it's not realistic to get to stand still for a long time but if there isn't an encounter where you notice you just get to stand still uh then that would be the one to use that file on right if there's an encounter like hey I'm barely moving ever on this encounter for whatever reason you just don't have to do a mechanic or whatever um you know the standstill one does do more damage but in raid I've just been using tepid versatility and Mythic plus uh file of glacial Fury is really really quite good obviously you don't have the verse for the defense and stuff like that uh but the glacial Fury is is quite good at doing like multi-target damage when you get to keep tagging new targets and stuff like that as far as your weapon goes uh obviously we have enchants as well but we can you know imbue our weapon holling earns really good this gives haste um at some point though our haste is probably going to be too high and at that point you know you'll have to simulate it but these wet stones that blacksmiths can make uh weight Stone and and uh Whetstone I don't know which one's better or which one does what uh attack power do they do the same thing uh a blunt oh so one's for blind ones for bladed okay so these wet stones at some point will probably take over and be better than the howling Rune but if your haste is low or whatever hauling her again you'd have to simulate there's no for sure but you're basically your choices are howling Rune or one of those wet stones that a blacksmith makes and eventually it'll be the blacksmith when I'd almost guarantee that because your haste is going to be high enough where it won't matter um as far as potions go the elements of potion of power is you know like the best potion the superior one is obviously better than that right um I have the regular ones right now because the other ones just cost a lot of gold um but the superior ones are better but you want the elemental potions of power whether that's a regular one or a um or a superior one or whatever uh you know they last for 30 seconds so you can for them uh when you're in single Target build and you have this extending on your wings um either way you can just use it when you pop your wings or you can wait until you use your final Reckoning to use it um it doesn't really matter uh but if you want to get if you want to guarantee the full use of it all 30 seconds so then you definitely want to use it right when you pop your wings to ensure that let's go ahead and talk about the enchants I think that would be like the last consumable thing hopefully I didn't forget anything um nothing on your head nothing on our neck uh cloak so there's a voidance for cloak that's Obviously good to survive we're not a high survival class waking stash to chest obviously whichever one you can afford um bracers again there's avoidance on weapon you want Frozen devotion as the best one again this is a very expensive enchant uh gloves nothing on our legs we want the fierce armor kit these can be a bit expensive as well uh plane starters Breeze is recommended for your boots I have haste on both of my rings again haste is just kind of like our best stat at some point though later on in the expansion made my haste is too big and maybe these will be enchanted with like versatility you know at 10.3 or something right and then yeah and then that should be it for enchants so those are your enchants we went over potions files I'm just trying not to forget anything there's a lot of stuff armor kits um I think I got everything there and so the last thing I want to talk about in this guide is embellishments so we don't know a lot about embellishments yet still um I plan on maybe just like the fire ring if more information comes out maybe in two three weeks a month or whatever I'll do a video just on embellishments as of right now I know especially for single Target what's considered the best thing to do is like if you're going to use the blacksmithing weapon right so you have the obsidian seared Claymore two-handed sword you can add an embellishment to this and you can add the fanga dormits I don't have any on me but you can add fangadorments to your weapon and that's confu considered to be like the best thing right now we'll see how this goes there's also a good embellishment on blacksmithing legs I know that might be more of like a Mythic plus one but there's all kinds of decently good embellishments and honestly I can't find information that I find Reliable about it um I don't have the know-how to like simulate it all myself like I did the trinkets right um so without having all that information I'm not comfortable talking too much about it I will say it's probably safe for single Target if you do want to craft your weapon and put Fang on it that's probably pretty safe to do obviously you can always recraft it if it ends up being wrong in the future but as far as that there's there's a lot of pretty good embellishments I assume that there's somewhat um you know somewhat balanced at least or they will be if they aren't currently and so you can go from there on that um I think I covered everything in this guide hopefully I didn't miss anything if I missed anything too big I will do a follow-up video but I do believe I got everything in here so um Good Luck to everybody hopefully you're having fun I'm having fun playing for the most part we're not too weak uh you know I knew our damage wouldn't be too awful bad we're obviously not in the highest tier but we're not too awful bad at damage and so I'm having a decent amount of time I'm not I'm dying a little bit but mostly that's just my eye level is still a bit low and uh I don't have any I have really bad rings and my so my stamina is like extra low and so uh that's kind of my biggest issue I'm like 30k Health less than most people in my RAID group uh so I am dying a little bit but I think it's mostly because of that so I'm having a good time hopefully you guys are having a good time as well I'm gonna try to add chapters in this video I've never had chapters before I know people have asked for that so I'm going to try to do that and yeah uh good luck everyone hopefully they're fine as always if you ask you to please subscribe to the channel helps me out so much and other than that everybody have a good one
