Hey folks, this is Kalani! the dragonflight expansion is right on our doorstep and even though we don't have an official release date yet we know the expansion will still launch sometime this year so that doesn't give us a lot of time to check all of our boxes and our big to-do lists, we probably have just over a month until pre-patch and hopefully about two months until dragonflight launches for real so let’s go through everything to do before dragonflight releases.
Some things I would probably wait on at least a little bit and some things I don't think are worth your time just to make sure we can all get ready for the new expansion in the most efficient way possible.
Let's Kick things off with season 4 and all the rewards that are now ticking away day by day one of the most important and something that most players will probably want to pick up is the Slime cat Mount, this is jinglesworth senior and it's only available until dragonflight launches, to get this Mount you need to clear all three shadowlands Raids on fated mode during season 4 on normal difficulty that will give you the fate of shadowlands raid achievement and the Slime cat Mount.
Now if you go one-step further and clear all the fated range on heroic mode you will also earn the hero of Fate title and one step above that if you clear everything on Mythic you'll also get portals to all three shadowlands arrays so you'll get a portal over to Castle nathria down into the maw for the sanctum of dominations well as a portal to Zereth mortis at the Sepulcher of the first ones entrance, all of these rewards are only available until dragonflight launches so time is ticking.
It is worth noting that even though only one raid is fated at a time right now eventually as we get closer and closer to pre-patching the release of dragonflight eventually all three raids will be fated at the same time so you don't have to Super worry about missing a week's raid right now because you will have access to all three at the same time sometime in the future, that means you could get all of normal or heroic or whatever you want to do you could get all three raids knocked out in in just one week that would be a lot of raiding to fit intone weekly reset though.
Another Mount that you might want to secure before shadowlands ends is the carsonized zareth Steed this one is very simple you just need to kill the Jailer on heroic mode with the new gearing up options in season 4 and you being able to take your item level higher than previously this shouldn’t be too bad, the Jailer fight can get quite hectic but as long as everyone knows what to do and can avoid falling down those pesky holes you should have plenty of time to get this one done before dragonflight rolls around, this Mount will be available until dragonflight launches so you Cando this even during the pre-patch.
If you want to up the stakes a little bit you can also go for the Jailer on Mythic difficulty right now if you defeat the Jailer on Mythic you aren't guaranteed to get two of his Mythic specific mounts to drop the Zereth overseer this one is really cool but the Mythic fight is going to be considerably harder to work your way through, now this Mount doesn’t go away when dragonflight launches but it will drop from a 100 chance down to the usual around a one percent chance for the amount to drop and he will no longer drop two it's just going to be one that makes it significantly harder to obtain this Mount after dragonflight launches so if you really want it now is your best time to try.
There is another Mythic raid Mount that you might want to pick up before dragonflight arrives Vengeance this one drops from Sylvanas on Mythic difficulty back in the sanctum of domination raid this one should be easier to obtain when compared to the Mythic jailer mount simply because our item level is so high when compared to the Gear we had back in sanctum of domination and it's a mount that plenty of folks are going to want to go after which means it should hopefully be easier to find a group for as long as you study the fight and understand which mechanics you need to deal with the fight isn't too bad overall but it is still quite long and one mistake can cost you the attempt so it's going to be a hard one to secure but the mount is very cool as with the domestic jail amount, this one doesn't go away when dragonflight launches but the drop rate will be significantly lower and only one Mount will drop instead of two.
It's not just raiding you'll need to pay attention to there are also some season4 Mythic plus rewards that are going away as well the most prominent reward is the restoration deathwalker Mount this is a purple and gold recolor of the same death Elemental Mount that has been rewarded for other Mythic plus Seasons, to get in this version you will need to earn 2 000 Mythic plus rating or higher in season 4 of shadowlands that works out to be about a plus 15 in all dungeons on tyrannical and fortified if I remember correctly so it's not too difficult to achieve.
This season affix also gives you a huge power boost throughout the entire dungeon so the hardest part of most Keys is actually getting started get to that 2000 rating Mark and this Mount can be yours, you can earn the restoration deathwalker until the dragonflight pre-patch so you don’t have quite as long as some of these other deadlines.
If you want to push your keys a bit higher there is another reward you can chase after if you complete a keystone on plus 20 or above you can get a special teleport spell that takes you straight to that dungeon portals to these areas can be useful for all sorts of purposes including just getting around the world faster so if you interested you'll need to complete plus 20 keys of the current available Mythic plus dungeons before thedragonflight pre-patch arrives.
You’ve got the same kind of deadline for all of the PVP rewards as well this includes the Eternal Gladiators Soul Eater Mount, the Eternal Gladiator title, The Eternal flux weapon illusion and this season set of elite PVP gear both of those last two can be picked up at 2100 rating all of that is going away after the pre-patch goes live so you don't have much longer if you want to get your hands on some of these PVP prestige rewards.
That's it for the typical end game grindy stuff but there is another broader achievement that you might want to pick up before we leave the shadowlands for good, the feat of strength achievement called back from the Beyond will no longer be obtainable after dragonflight launches.
This achievement rewards you with the veil Strider title which is quite fitting and rather unique the matter achievement is quite involved however so if this is something you are interested in I would start going for it ASAP there are dungeon achievements open world achievements story achievements you need to run through each raid tall gas stuff complete a lot of Covenant related activities basically it had to go through almost every part of shadowlands, there are quite a few RNG sections too so starting at ASAP will give you a higher chance of actually completing the achievement Before Time runs out.
While there are some raiding achievements in here that you need all of them can be accomplished through the raid finder system so you shouldn't run into any huge issues if you're going for this achievement as a more casual oriented player.
Now something else that I always recommend you do before a new expansion comes out is to go through your bags, shadowlands has been particularly bad in some cases when it comes to inventory bloat, there are a lot of little items that clog up huge sections of your inventory that you either won't need or just won't even be able to use as we head into dragonflight so it's a great time to sit down comb through your bags and decide what you really need to keep going forward, it's that little buff items that only works in the maw or only works in ardenwald really worth holding on to I mean probably let's be honest but I'm going to try and convince myself have to throw it away anyway .
The zereth mortis specific materials can either be thrown away sold if possible stashed away in your bank or you can work on actually using some of them like for the creation Catalyst whatever you end up doing with these items just try to clear your bags out before the expansion arrives, we all know we're going to fill them up again just as quickly but at least it will be with expansion relevant materials from my time on the beta I can tell you that there are just as many if not more materials to collect in dragonflight, especially related to professions so you will want as much backspace as possible so you don't have to stop part way through your fun adventures to decide which old's Earth Motors junk to hold on to, no one wants their leveling to be interrupted by Annoying bag management so clear it out.
Now this also extends into your bank and perhaps even your Regions Bank, I know I have some special things that I always love to keep in my bank but shadowlands has also kind of filled it up with junk that I didn't want to make a decision on earlier when you run out of bank space in dragonflight and trust me mean you will you're going to want to turn to your bank to store excess materials but if it's full of older expansion stuff you just won't have any space so try and go through your bank as well you know just in case you're holding thousands and thousands of uncommon quality uncut gems just like me, yeah I should probably do something about that, make way for the thousands and thousands of uncut dragonflight gems I'm going to hoard.
Something else you can tidy up before dragonflight is your quest log, if you love to do side quests and especially if you’re going to go hard into professions in dragonflight you're going to fill up your quest log pretty quickly why do we still have a cap on quests in the quest log no idea but it's going to be just as restrictive as it always has been so if you dread running into that Quest log is full error be sure to clean up or empty quest log before dragonflight arrives, I'm going to be abandoning quests that I have no intention of completing likesome of the weekly stuff that I haven’t been doing for a while, now some odd quests that I've picked up here and there and then I'll finish the other quests that have rewards that I'm still interested in whether you abandon them or complete them be sure you have a squeaky clean Quest log ready to pick up those exciting new dragonflight quests.
Now as we look forward into dragonflight it’s also a great time to start thinking about what professions you might want to pursue in the next expansion professions are going to be very different going forward and I know we said that for pretty much every expansion recently but this time they're going crazy with it professionals have a new UI, there's a new quality system that means even if you and another chap are crafting the same item yours can be better if you put more effort into it, there are also specializations that let you further hone your craft so you can be a weapon specialized blacksmith or an armor specialized blacksmith, it's really cool but that also means your time and effort is rewarded as I said professions are going to be completely different this time around so if you have an idea about what you would like to do maybe craft weapons for yourself or armor or provide Jewels or enchants or whatever else my point is that professions will actually matter this time around they won't be made completely irrelevant and as soon as you can enter Mythic dungeons I think more players are going to be interested in professions in general partly because the dev team are actually putting effort in this time.
They're a little bit more complicated so it's going to take longer to get used to and ultimately foregoing to have a lot more to do but they’re also going to be quite powerful gear options especially are going to be huge from professions, you might even be able to make gear on par with the highest tiers of Mythic raiding gear so now is a great time to prepare and have a think how do you want to set up your professions do you want multiple characters for multiple professions maybe have a specific gatherer character for both Mining and herbalism.
While you can do all of this at max level in dragonflight, it's worth noting that there are important profession related questlines available as you level up in the dragon Isles so if you have your professions sorted and ready while you level you could potentially save yourself time and effort later on, it's a great time to prepare and look forward to one of the largest changes coming in the dragonflight expansion, the same goes for what characters and classes you might want to play the end of expansion, it has always been a great time to play with different classes to see what might be fun going forward in the end of shadowlands is no different.
it's also worth noting that dragonflight doesn’t really have many Giga grindy end game systems we don't have any borrowed power this time so no Covenant, no Renown, no conduits, no torghast, no legendaries all that stuff that made playing alts more of a chore in shadowlands that hadn’t been carried forward and there doesn’t seem to be anything like it so far on the beta.
The dev team have also said time and time again that they want more features and systems to be account wide in dragonflight so hopefully even if there is a lengthy grind it will only need to be done once so alts might be more fun in dragonflight and they’re going to be very useful if you want to dive deep into the new profession systems maybe have a think about which classes you might want to play what you want to main which also you might want to level first and get that all set up so you have a plan ready for dragonflight's launch.
Now I know a lot of changes are coming through with dragonflight which might make choosing a class kind of hard right now after awesome specs and classes will play quite differently in the new expansion but thankfully you can actually get a taste of what's to come right now if you pop onto the public test realm you can see the new dragonflight talent trees and play around with all the Baseline class changes too so you don't have to wait for pre-patch or for thedragonflight launch to see how classes are changing, just hop onto the PTR and you can see it all right now.
Now something else that you might be interested in on the PTR are the new user interface options, going into dragonfly the default UI is getting completely overhauled you can customize it to your own personal preference and move almost anything around, the main reason I bring this up in this video is that it's also a great time to go through your add-ons and clear out any that you maybe don't need any more ,maybe you installed add-ons specific to certain patches or raids or events or Secrets or whatever it might be I think it’s always worth going through them and removing any add-ons you either don’t use or simply don't need any more but with the big UI changes coming in dragonflight you might be able to Pare down your add-on list even more.
Personally I won't be using any any bar add-ons anymore they seem a little bit Superfluous, and I might even get rid of ivy if I can set up the UI how I want to go through your add-ons and see if the new UI options in the PTR can help you cut down your add-on list even further.
Another great way to pass the time between now and dragonflight is to get your alts ready to jump into the new Dragon Island Adventures as well maybe you can’t decide what class to play as your main may be interested in making the swap to Avoca but still want to keep some other characters up to date as well or maybe you just want an entire profession Army ready to craft anything and everything that comes your way whatever the reason for wanting to play some alts they will need to be level 58 to 60 to jump into the new dragonflight content when the expansion arrives, I would recommend getting them up to 60 so you have less work to do to reach the new Max of 70 in the expansion and you will also be able to gear your characters up way better to make the leveling much smoother and easier.
Overall there is a little bit of an asterisk here though sure you can level up your alt right this very second to get them all Ship Shape ready to take on the threats that await in the dragon Isles how however we are currently expecting a huge change to the overall leveling experience of 1 to 60 when the pre-patch for dragonflight arrives, part of that leveling change is a massive reduction in experience required to level about 60 percent less in fact which means leveling up your alt in the pre-patch would be significantly faster when compared to right now so you might be able to save yourself a lot of time and effort by waiting to level up your alts until the pre-patch arrives.
That also gives you time to spend on some other things in this list and when the pre-patch drops you can spend your time getting alts all caught up and ready to go, the pre-patch might also include an event that makes leveling even easier so I think it's definitely worth waiting for if you have a lot of alts you want to level up.
Something else that’s relevant to your alt is gear or I guess this could be relevant to your main character as well if you've been away from the game for a while should you gear up how high of an item level should you go for is it really worth it if it’s all going to be replaced anyway, my answer to those is sort of I think gearing up is definitely worth it to a certain extent because the better gear you have the faster you'll be able to kill monsters and the easier requesting a leveling experience will be in dragon flight but you're right all of your gear will be replaced item levels are going to increase very quickly as you level through the dragon Isles so I wouldn’t put too much effort into gearing up your characters especially your alt right now.
The gear rewards from the very first quests in dragonflight rewards item level 180 gear around about there so as long as you're in that ballpark you know around item level 200 or above you should have no problems killing monsters and completing quests, I would probably go a bit higher than that personally we have crafted gear, the boa anima tokens and a few other easy sources of gear in shadowlands right now to achieve some decent item levels very quickly but there is a similar cave there as to leveling your alts the pre-patch might make gearing up significantly easier too we don't know much about the pre-patch event right now but some new gear has been data mined that could be a reward from the event the gear is currently set on item level 250 and can be equipped at level 58 making it the perfect option for catch-up gear, there has also been a vendor in previous beta builds that sold item level 252 gear for a new currency then those vendors seem to have since disappeared so it's all a be wish-washy right now but the general picture seems to be we should be able to farm item level 250-ish gear from the pre-patch event in one form or another and historically the gear rewards from these events have been incredibly easy to obtain so I would also wait for the pre-patch to do any alt leveling or gearing but when that pre-patch launches it’s going to be a perfect time to get your alts all up to date and ready for dragonflight.
But if you fancy a break from retail wow but still want to play some well there is another option on the table rather the Lich King Classic has been in pre-patch for a little while now and the expansion itself goes live on September 26th so if you fancy a blaster in the past you can spend some time in the expansion where wow was at its peak it’s a very different experience when compared to retail wow as it currently stands whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is going to be up to you and how you prefer to play the game if you’re not entirely sure if you'll enjoy the older version of wow there is a reason you might want to dip your toes in and find out.
If you complete the death knight starting experience on classic wow you can earn the frost brood Proto Wyrm for your retail Mount collection so you get something cool just for trying it out and who knows you might have a lot of fun with classic which can tie you over until the dragonflight pre-patch or maybe even the dragonflight launch, classic wow is also included in your subscription so you don’t have to pay anything extra to gain access to it so if you're bored and stuck for things to do maybe give classic a poke if nothing else, it can show you just how far wow has come and how much it has changed.
That’s pretty much it everything I would try to get done before dragonflight but I have saved the most important thing for last the single most important thing you can do before dragonflight arrives is to make sure you don't burn out, dragonflight is genuinely shaping up to be a fun expansion between Dragon riding the various new gearing up past the huge professions overhaul in the worldbuilding playing the bay has made me very hopeful for this expansion it’s going to be a breath of fresh air after shadowlands so it will be very disappointing if we got to the release date and you were just burned out and super tired of wow don't use up all of your wow energy right now get the things done that really matter to you and then take a step back don't stress yourself out recharge those batteries so you can enjoy dragonflight to the fullest because it's going to be a much better experience in my opinion compared to anything you can do in shadowlands right now.
Focus on some smaller things maybe go check out wrath or play some of the games for a little bit we probably have about two months maybe a bit more before dragonflight comes out that's plenty of time to take a breather chill out get a handful of things done and come back to the game refreshed and ready to saw through the skies on your brand-new dragon pal.
Now as of this video going live we still don't have dates for the pre-patch or for the release date of dragonflight, I think we're looking at later October for pre-patch and late November for release but I'm sure blizzard will post official dates for those Milestones within at least the next few weeks so until then we're not sure what our data lines are exactly but would start working on things earlier rather than later if you really want to get something done before pre-patch or dragonflight launches for real.
That’s it for this video what are you going to be working on from now until dragon flight leveling up that alt Army figuring out which professions you’re going to master poking your toes into wrath the Lich King Classic or maybe just taking a break from Wow altogether is there anything that wasn't on this list that you think folks should get done leave all your thoughts in the comment section below a big thank you to all of our supporters are on patreon and everyone subscribed on Twitch ,you can see their names floating by on screen if you want to see more videos like this make sure to subscribe and ring that notification Bell so you never miss another video, thanks for watching folks good luck and have fun and as always I will see you next time!
