Having a wand as a caster will definitely make your leveling process much faster. That's why I've put together this guide to help you acquire a wand as early as possible.
Craft Your Own Wand:
One of the fastest ways to obtain a wand is by crafting it yourself. If you're planning to play on upcoming official Classic Hardcore servers, here's what you can do: Farm Dinner Club. My usual method is to collect three stacks of linen cloth, which amounts to 60 pieces. Then, I head to the main city to learn enchanting and tailoring. Later in this guide, I'll share the various locations where linen cloth can be found for both factions and races.
First, convert all your cloth into bolts, resulting in 30 bolts of linen cloth. By doing this, you will likely reach level 30 in tailoring. Now, go back to the trainer and learn these two skills. This step is important because you need to craft green chests, which are required for enchanting. I usually skip crafting the white linen rope as it also requires buying some black dye, making it more expensive than the other option. The plan is to craft a total of 10 chests and then disenchant them. For each chest disenchanted, you will gain one level in enchanting. This method allows you to easily reach level 10, which is crucial for crafting the Lesser Magic Wand. Before crafting the wand, you'll also need to create the Rune-covered Rod, which can be crafted by an enchanter. You can purchase the Rune-covered Rod from a vendor and then provide the required enchanting materials. Now you're ready to craft the Lesser Magic Wand. Alternatively, you can check the auction house on a fresh server to save time, or purchase the enchanting materials to skip the linen cloth farming. In the following sections, I'll share various other ways to obtain wands, including completing quests and visiting wand vendors.
Linen Cloth Farming Locations:
Alliance:
- Humans: Kill fires or kobolds. These can be found marked on the minimap.
- Night Elves: Look for gnolls or imps inside and outside of the cave. Both have a chance to drop linen cloth.
- Dwarves and Gnomes: Farming linen cloth is a bit more challenging for these races as the enemies you need to kill are usually level 7 and above. On a fresh server, it might be better to go to Ironforge, take the train to Stormwind City, and then farm linen cloth in Elwynn Forest, starting at around level 4 or 5.
Horde:
- Undead: Farm Dinner Club by killing farmers and Scarlet Warriors near the tower as soon as you leave the starting area. Alternatively, take the Zeppelin to Tirisfal Glades and head to the marked location. This can also be done at around level 4 or 5.
- Orcs and Trolls: Head to the marked area to find knolls. Unlike Alliance, Horde has the opportunity to farm linen cloth early on, regardless of the race you play.
Quests for Obtaining Wands:
Alliance:
- Darkshore: Around level 11, you can start a small quest chain that eventually rewards you with a decent wand. This quest chain does not require leveling up any professions or relying on rare drops. In the description, you can find a link to other quests where you can guarantee obtaining a wand at a low level, including Westfall.
Horde:
- Silverpine Forest: Go to the marked NPC and start a quest chain. One downside is that this quest requires a party because you need to defeat different elite targets and loot them. It might be easier and safer to level up enchanting and craft your own wand instead.
Wand Vendors:
You can always purchase wands from vendors located in major cities such as Stormwind City, Ironforge, or Orgrimmar. Some of the lower-level wands are surprisingly good, offering better damage than certain green quest rewards at that level range.
There are numerous ways to obtain a wand early on, whether by visiting the auction house, crafting as an engineer, completing quests, or purchasing from vendors.
